SPEAKER & BIO: Hadi Shafiee (Associate Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital)
Dr. Hadi Shafiee is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnique Institute and State University in 2010. After receiving trainings in the development of devices for cell sorting and pathogen detection at Virginia Tech and Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology, he started his own lab at BWH, HMS in 2014. Dr. Shafiee’s lab strives to develop innovative diagnostic tools to address unmet clinical challenges through integrating biology/medicine, micro- and nanotechnology, consumer electronics, and artificial intelligence. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers with h-index of 44, i10-index of 68, and over 7299 citations, more than 20 issued or pending patents, and has given more than 100 invited lectures.
Dr. Shafiee’s scientific innovations have garnered widespread recognition, covered by over 200 major media outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, NPR, The Guardian, STAT, and CBS News. Furthermore, his work has been licensed by commercial entities including Verility Inc., FujiFilm Irvine Scientific, Illumicell AI, and Seedbox Labs Inc/ highlighting its translational potential to reshape clinical diagnostics and advance precision medicine globally.His lab has been funded by the NIH, Massachusetts General Brigham, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard School of Public Health, and American Society of Reproductive Medicine. He is the chair of the AI framework validation at the AIFertility Society. He has mentored more than 100 postdoctoral research fellows, and undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom have launched independent research labs worldwide and gained admission to prestigious graduate programs such as MIT, Harvard, Boston University, Duke University, UCLA, Cornell University, and others.
